Any hopes for a refund are now gone. iYogi is out of business unless they are operating under another name.

Because I am more than sixty days from the time I charged to pay for a contract with them, I have no recourse with my credit card company.

Come to find out they infected my computer, threatened if I didn't buy another contract I would be sorry when my computer went down and I lost everything. You guessed it, down it went. Fortunately, I didn't lose everything, but have had to now subscribe to another tech support company.

This time I went with one in the USA.

Carefully investigate any tech company that takes control of your computer and then makes demands for fees for service. Good chance they are scamming.

Reason of review: OUT OF BUSINESS and I'm out my money.

Monetary Loss: $400.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Iyogi Cons: Lack of integrity and honesty, Scammers, High sales pressure, Customer service lying to customers, Stating they are doing their job informing me of likely problems, Not receiving item ordered over 2 months ago, Long phone waits, Constant selling.

Location: Riverside, California

I just fell victim to the current ongoing iYogi refund scam. Feel so embarrassed, pissed off and upset.

I stupidly took a call from an unidentifiable number (first from FL then from CA, but maybe from India or Pakistan). The pitch from the thick-accented con man was to open my computer and bank account to receive a $399.99 refund. Who doesnโ€™t want a nice refund? But why?

I wasnโ€™t a customer since 2016! But I fell for it. They appeared to transfer in $4399.99, $4000 more! They said the only way to clear the overpayment was to purchase 3,500 in gift cards from either Walmart, Best Buy or Target.

He said if I didnโ€™t, he would suspend or clean out my accounts by remote control, and/or erase my laptop data by remote control. Extortion!!! So I felt I had no time to report it, since he was on the phone and in remote control of my computer. I bought the cards and read him the ID and access code numbers from each.

He said he would call me the next morning to finish the refund transfer. He did. Retook control of the laptop, and the bank account, (which showed $3500 in expenses at Target). He said the gift card transfer did not go through and we needed to repeat it!

Now I knew he was a criminal scammer. My $3500 was spent, but there was no addition of $500 or the 399.99 โ€œrefundโ€. I refused to go buy more cards. He added the threats and moved my cursor to show he can manipulate my bank account.

I was scared! So I told him I would drive to Target to buy more cards. He stayed on the phone. He said his name was Green Smith (?) from California office of iYogi.

I instead drove to my bank , reported the live action scam , and they closed my account and advised me to disconnect my computer. I told him I had the new gift cards and would tell him the numbers when back at home. I shut down my computer and told him what I did. Then hung up.

Then uninstalled the access app he used to take over my computer. He got my $3500, but wanted double that!!!

He was very slick. BEWARE AND DONโ€™T TAKE SUCH CALLS OR FALL PREY TO THUS SCAM!!!!!!
